When is the deadline to apply?

You should have your application in by August 4, 2011.

What costs are covered in the grant?

The grant will cover tuition, fees, books, software and additional supplies as needed for the courses in the MSTTPA Go! TECH program.

How long does the program last?

Students in the Master Technology Teacher Certification program will be finished in four semesters, taking one course per semester. Students earning their master’s degree will complete in two years, by summer 2013.

Do I qualify if I teach elementary education?
Yes, because you are certified to teach all subject areas, you will qualify for this program.

Do I have to be teaching in a participating district?

You must currently be working at one of the MSTTPA participating school.  We continue to seek grant funding and will be partnering with other districts in the future.

What are the learning seminars and how often do we meet for seminars?

The seminars provide enrichment to deepen and expand instructional skills of the participants.  Students are required to attend the Seminars, held once per week throughout each semester and four times in the summer.  Approximately half of these seminars are held online with the others being face-to-face on the campus of participating districts.

Can I participate if I already have a master’s degree?

Yes. You may either go through the MTT certification program or you can get a second master’s degree.  You must agree to teach at least two years in your district after you complete the program.  This may be waived only if the teacher accepts another teaching position in a Texas public school district determined to be a high-need district.

Can I participate if I don’t know a lot about technology or how to use it in teaching?

Absolutely. This program is designed to get you “up to speed” on using technology and will require that your projects be related to and useable in the classroom. Many teachers are surprised that they learn tools and strategies that are useful in the classroom by the end of the first project. By the end of the second semester, you will be quite proficient in using technology in the classroom. The online classes will prepare you to develop online courses as well as teach online. In addition, you will also have the opportunity to meet and network with teachers across the Valley, who will be an excellent source for sharing learning, long after the course ends.

How much time will I have to spend in the program?

On average, any master’s level course requires 2-3 hours outside of class for every hour spent in class. Thus, you will be spending about 6-9 hours outside of class, largely dependent upon how well you want to do in class and how much you want to learn. The seminars require 3-hours per week. While it will take a time commitment, this program will make you a more highly qualified teacher in this era of program cuts and job losses.

How do I apply for MSTTPA Go! TECH?

You will need to go to http://bit.ly/msttpa and fill out the application, then fax it to the number on the application, to the attention of Janice Butler.  Once approved for Go! TECH, you will need to apply to the graduate program.
